VONS Fuel Center #1753 (BISHOP, CALIFORNIA)
Development of a vacant parcel of property within a large regional shopping center to incorporate a state of the art Vons fuel center and convenience mart. Project included the construction of a re-tail convenience store building, gas canopy, fuel islands and fuel system, underground storage tanks, site paving, landscaping, light-ing improvements and utilities. Project also involved the construc-tion of street improvement within the Caltrans public right of way.
CHALLENGES & RESOLUTIONS
Project site was found to have a high water table which could have the affect of flooding and filling the tank hole when excavated. Early identification of the water table allowed Travis to design pre-ventative shoring and dewatering plans to maintain a dry environ-ment in the tank hole.
Since the site is served by a Caltrans Highway street improvement design were required for restrictive medians and access ramps. Coordination efforts were utilized to work with Caltrans to facili-tate the completion of the project.
